a little help from my friends
I haven’t done a true gift list here because I see everything in the shop as a perfect little gift—from a $3 card up to a cashmere scarf—but where I run into trouble is…THE BOYS!
So I’m thrilled to present you with the first ever Myrtle guest post! Kevin of NEED THIS NOW has made your life easier with the best of the best of men’s gifts and the links to check them out!
- Boots are a great winter gift, necessary in colder, snowier climes like NYC, Boston, etc and still super stylish and comfortable here in LA. (It gets down to 50 degrees some nights!) I like Red Wings, Wolverine 1000 Mile and Danner.
- If he’s stocked up on boots, a sweater or two is another great idea, and in my opinion Gant is killing it in the sweater department with everything from solid basics to some more fun and festive prints. And they’re on sale online too! Alternately, you can find Gant at Barneys, Saks, Nordstrom and Fred Segal. (Keep in mind the main Gant line is a more “regular” fit than the slimmer Gant Rugger and Gant by Michael Bastian collections.)
- To complete his winter look, Whitney has the best scarves in the world at Myrtle (seriously, the best) and they’re unisex too, which means, you know, one for him and one for you. Obviously.
- Nice pajamas are another great gift idea — the kind of thing he might not buy for himself but will totally love lounging in on cool winter weekends. I’d probably go Brooks Brothers, although you could also do Ralph Lauren, and Bonsoir out of England is super nice, with a price to match.
- If you want to build on the pajamas, consider going for a pair of nice slippers. LL Bean isn’t the trendiest name in men’s fashion, but they do make the most luxuriously comfortable slippers. They run big and stretch a little after that, so size down a full size.
- Finally, for stocking stuffers, I love Kiehl’s Ultimate Brushless Shave White Eagle, and the pre-shave Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash and post-shave Facial Fuel Moisturizer are really good as well.
- If you were thinking of stuffing his stocking with something a little more, say, alcoholic, Bulleit is a good bet (tasty, not too fancy, affordable) but if he’s up for trying something new, allow me to suggest “white whiskey” aka moonshine. It’s surprising, fun and surprisingly fun to drink.
- For that go-to stocking stuffer classic, cologne, I say stay away from it. What a guy wants to smell like is such a personal choice that unless you know exactly what he’s looking for (or he’s super easy to please… we can dream, right?) you’re likely to end up with a near miss. If, on the other hand, your man likes a good mandle (that is, a man-candle) this is for sure the one to get.
- Good luck shopping, and happy holidays!
I’d say the Gant sweaters are pretty unisex as well, if anyone’s looking for MY list ;)
